Work with us
At ONQ, we take our culture, and the personalities that create it, very seriously. We engage in a recruitment process that ensures that our core values are yours, too.
The recruitment process at ONQ follows these milestones:
1. Apply with us.
Send us your resume and cover letter and we’ll invite you to answer a short survey. It’s pretty quick and will give us an idea of what you’re looking for, how you think, and where you fit.
2. Talk with us.
Initially, you’ll speak to someone about your application on the phone. It’s a chat that takes about half an hour and is an initial assessment of who you are, where you’re coming from and will clarify the position and ONQ’s ideal candidate.
There’s an element of structure to this call, which will generally take a questionnaire format.
3. Show us.
We’re all specialists in our given field, and we want to make sure that you can do what you say you can! We ask Developers to create something, we ask Designers to design something, we pose client service problems to Client Services candidates, and maths questions that will make your toes curl to our Analysts.
This will happen in your own time, to an agreed deadline, and should be pretty straight forward because you’re already an expert, right?
4. Meet us.
After the telephone interview, and having demonstrated your abilities, we’ll invite you in to meet a few of us that you’ll be working with, and talk in more detail about your application and skill set.
This will typically take 1-2 hours, depending on the role you’re applying for, and is relatively casual in format. You’ll also meet our CEO (he’ll be the guy asking the tough questions).
During this part of the process, and depending on the role you’re applying for, you might meet up to half a dozen different people – all with their own questions.
5. Join us.
Assuming everything goes well, and having spoken with the references you’ve provided, we will express our interest in you joining the ONQ team over the phone, and outline our offer. We’ll then reiterate that offer via email.
On your first day you’ll be partnered with a ‘buddy’ who will show you the ropes and help you settle in. Just like starting at a new school.
Sometimes interviews go well, but you might not fit exactly into the role we’re interviewing for. Usually we’ll be frank about this, and will discuss other opportunities, or keep you in mind for future roles. We’re hiring almost consistently.
We’re going to ask you what you know about us, and why you want to work for us, so having answers to those questions will put you in good stead.
Write a cover letter.
This is the first thing we see, and no cover letter generally means no consideration.
Tell us about your interests.
We love to know about who we are hiring, not just what. Adding some detail about who you are allows us to skip the small talk (though we do quite enjoy that too).
Don’t be generic.
Creating a resume that’s a bullet point list of your skills and abilities won’t stand out. Tailor your application to the position that you’re applying for.
We offer a respectful, energetic, friendly and team-focused working environment, with a great opportunity to learn and excellent long-term career prospects. If you’re ready for a new epoch in your career, we’d love to hear from you.
Please send expressions of interest and CVs to firstname.lastname@example.org.
